La produzione di vino in Sicilia è sempre stata considerevole, con le nostre 9 uve autoctone, un terreno ideale, un sole che non ci abbandona mai e l’ingegno, abbiamo avuto di che fare vini di ogni sorta, dai bianchi ai rossi ai vini passiti.

La nostra tradizione è sicuramente di lunga data, ma solo di recente è stata raffinata per diventare oggetto di attenzioni ed apprezzamento nei 5 continenti.
Le etichette esportate ormai sono diverse, e quelle riconosciute per le loro qualità sono in crescita di numero.

Wine Spectator è una rivista americana specializzata del settore enologico.
Descrive, classifica, recensisce tutti i vini disponibili sul mercato mondiale.
In nord America, oltre ad essere buoni consumatori, producono tanti vini interessanti, specialmente in California, Napa Valley giusto per citare un’aera geografica.

Ma siccome, come detto prima, il mercato dei vini è diventato globale, l’interesse per le bottiglie di valore si e’ esteso oltre i classici vini francesi, toscani e piemontesi.
Essendo ormai questo mercato divisibile non solo per continenti ma anche per nazioni e regioni, la Sicilia è rientrata fra i territori da loro analizzati e riconosciuti per il pregio dei prodotti.

Non stiamo parlando di guide italiane che si limitano ad una divulgazione sul territorio nazionale, ma di quelle redatte in inglese che sono poi veicolo internazionale di promozione.
Wine Spectator è letto e preso in considerazione dovunque, il che non è poco.

Qui di sotto vedrete come sono quotati i nostri migliori vini rossi Sciliani. Considerate che un punteggio come 94/100 che viene dato al primo della nostra classifica isolana, è davvero un grande traguardo. Ci mette li in prima fila con altri grandi bottiglie.

Aggiungo che chi produce questo vino nmero uno per gli Americani è pure della provincia di Siracusa. E si trova sulla strada che da Noto va verso Pachino, in pieno territorio di Nero D’Avola.
Altro da aggiungere? Direi che basta, date uno sguardo alla classifica di Wine Spectator, che vi lascio in versione originale, e fate un brindisi al buon vino di casa nostra.

FEUDO MACCARI Sicilia Maharis 2006 Score: 94
This is a classy red, with dark chocolate, berry, licorice and blackberry. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a solid core of reduced fruit. Very polished. Silky and beautiful. Hard to resist now. Nero d'Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Best after 2010.

TENUTA DELLE TERRE NERE Etna Prephylloxera La Vigna di Don Peppino 2006 Score: 92
This is very structured. Aromas of plum and sliced lemon follow through to a full body, with lots of fruit and a long, powerful finish. Needs time. Like a grand cru Burgundy. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Best after 2009.

FEUDO MACCARI Nero d'Avola Sicilia Saia 2006 Score: 92
This has subtle aromas of blackberry, mineral and lavender. Full-bodied, with soft, silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish. All in the right place. Succulent. A classy wine. Drink now.

MORGANTE Nero d'Avola Sicilia Don Antonio 2005 Score: 91
Very attractive bright fruit, with licorice and blueberry. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a clean finish. This is really polished and pretty. Long and delicious, with a silky texture. Why wait? Drink now.

MORGANTE Nero d'Avola Sicilia 2006 Score: 90
Aromas of crushed blackberry and asphalt follow through to a full body, with loads of fruit. Focused and delicious, with a great finish. Such purity of fruit. A real Nero here. Drink now.

TASCA D'ALMERITA Contea di Sclafani Rosso del Conte 2005 Score: 90
Notes of dried dark fruits, flowers and cedar on the nose follow through to a medium-to-full body, with ripe tannins and a long finish. Builds on the palate. Needs time to mellow. Nero d'Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Best after 2011

TENUTA DELLE TERRE NERE Etna Calderara Sottana 2006 Score: 90
Smells like tawny Port, Christmas cake and flowers. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a wonderful intensity. Has a cinnamon finish. Stylish and powerful. Needs a little bottle age to tame the tannins. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Best after 2009.

VALLE DELL'ACATE Sicilia Tané 2004 Score: 90
Complex aromas of lavender, blackberry and dark chocolate follow through to a full body, with round, soft tannins and a long finish. Nero d'Avola and Syrah. Drink now.

FEUDO PRINCIPI DI BUTERA Nero d'Avola Sicilia Deliella 2005 Score: 89
There's ripe currant and a hint of vanilla on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with unobtrusive, fruit-coated tannins and a dense, balanced and lingering finish. Shows depth. Delicious. Drink now.

RAPITALÀ Sicilia Solinero 2005 Score: 89
Has very pretty aromas of blackberry, meat and hints of cracked black pepper. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and a long, fruity finish. Subtle and well done. Syrah. Best after 2010.

BAGLIO DI PIANETTO Petit Verdot Sicilia Carduni 2004 Score: 88
Dark ruby in color, with fresh, vivid aromas of tar, spice and blueberry. Full-bodied, chewy and tannic, but with plenty of fruit underneath. Turns slightly austere on the finish. Drink now.

VITICULTORI ASSOCIATI CANICATTI Sicilia Aynat 2005 Score: 88
Shows fresh blackberry, with hints of fresh mushroom and chocolate. Full-bodied, with lots of black fruit and velvety tannins. Turns a little short. Nero d'Avola. Drink now.

DONNAFUGATA Contessa Entellina Mille e Una Notte 2005 Score: 88
Wonderful aromas of crushed flowers and blackberry follow through to a medium-to-full body, with silky tannins and a medium, caressing finish. Nero d'Avola. Best after 2010.

Delicate aromas of flowers and plum, with a hint of strawberry. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a focused, clean finish. Very attractive Pinot Noir. Drink now.

PLANETA Sicilia Burdese 2005 Score: 88
Mint, blackberry and hints of currant on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, with cut-wood character and a medium finish. Shows lots of new barrels, but should come around with bottle age. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2010.

RAPITALÀ Syrah Sicilia Nadir 2006 Score: 88
Meat, plum and berry character follows through to a full body, with a round texture and a meaty finish. Drink now.

TASCA D'ALMERITA Nero d'Avola-Cabernet Sauvignon Sicilia Cygnus 2005 Score: 88
This shows subtle yet complex aromas of currant and blackberry, with sour cherry. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Drink now

This interesting red offers black cherry, flowers and ferrous minerals on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, with lots of iris and black fruit, fine tannins and a medium finish. Needs some bottle age to mellow. Nero d'Avola. Best after 2008.
